or for yourself.

Building with the basics

In keeping with the Oxbridge model, our students "read" a subject. In the United States, you meet a college student and ask about their major or minor. In England you ask, "What do you read?" A graduate says of his schooling, for example, "I read philosophy." This is what our students do, they read.

Students interested in this education can hire our tutor to study:

Political Philosophy:
As this website originated as "Book A Conservative Speaker" and still advertises that interest, students will read conservative classics and supplemental material. If you are unsure about politics or are a Democrat curious about conservative thinking, we can help you here.

Philosophy:
The tutor has an undergraduate degree in Philosophy and has kept up on a hobby level with books and articles that cover classical or "modern" philosophy, (up the the 19th century) but is only glancingly familiar with 20th century and process philosophy.

Theology:
The tutor holds a graduate level degree in Theology from a mainline Protestant seminary. This is orthodox Christian theology. He is qualified to teach a survey course on world religions.

History:
The tutor has an extensive, lifelong, personal, study of history, is qualified to teach modern history (European and American since 1600), and is qualified to learn with instructive, guiding, insight other history he reads along with a student.

Literature:
The tutor has an especial appreciation for English literature before the 1970s, and read/studied British literature in England. He is qualified to teach earlier and translated writings of classical origin.

Creative Writing:
The tutor has been writing genre fiction and "literary" fiction since 1992. He has a library of three dozen or so instructional books on creative writing. This subject of study is interactive, involves much reading, but even more writing. While the price of tutoring necessarily involves some critique of creative writing, the focus will be upon technique instead of content.
